Construction is now complete and both bungalows are sold. Explore the story behind the project, watch the documentary and browse the monthly updates that chart the journey from concept to completion.

Location

Alveston, a peaceful green-belt village in South Gloucestershire

Nestled in Alveston, a peaceful green-belt village in South Gloucestershire, this exclusive pair of contemporary eco bungalows combines countryside tranquillity with modern, sustainable living.

Unlocking Potential
  • We solved a complex planning puzzle, transforming previously derelict land into two completed eco homes. What was once overlooked scrubland now stands as an example of how small-scale, sensitive development can create positive outcomes for landowners, investors, communities and the environment.

Watch the Story Behind Alveston

In this film, Andrew Minto reflects on the planning journey and shares the story behind the site, alongside perspectives from investors and members of the wider team who helped bring the project to life.

“We’re very proud to have brought quality homes to Alveston. It’s a fantastic village, with so many facilities either on the doorstep or within close reach"

Andrew Minto, Director, Landhaven

About the Eco Bungalows

The Local Community

Alveston combines rural charm with everyday essentials within easy reach; including a local shop, post office, pharmacy, exercise studio, takeaway, butcher and café, with Thornbury High Street just a mile away.

The village is also home to community highlights such as a church, primary school, playground, cricket pitch and village hall.

a word from one of our Investors

This is the third Landhaven project I've seen through to completion, and what stands out is the consistency. Quality is built in from the start, communication is open and honest, and challenges are handled professionally. That's why we're looking forward to our fourth investment.

We’ve kept an eye on progress and pleased this one has started and is coming together quickly. We would like to take up your offer to visit, when it's convenient.

Project Update from Alveston | May 2026

With the installation of the gate intercom system now complete, the Alveston Eco Bungalows development has reached full completion.

The project has delivered two high-specification eco homes incorporating air-source heat pumps, underfloor heating, solar PV panels and biodiversity-led landscaping, all set within a carefully designed Green Belt setting.

To mark the completion of the development, we’ve also created a drone timelapse capturing the transformation of the site from groundworks through to finished homes.

It’s been fascinating to see months of construction, landscaping and finishing works condensed into a few short minutes and viewed from a completely different perspective.

A longer film exploring the story behind the project, the people involved and the lessons learned will follow soon

Project Update from Alveston | November 2025

Progress at the Alveston eco bungalow development has continued steadily through November, with both homes moving firmly into the later stages of internal fit-out.

As the team shifts from structural elements to finishes, the character and quality of these high-spec, low-energy homes are becoming increasingly clear.

Watch the video for November progress and a look inside the bungalows.

  • Internal Plastering Advancing: Plastering works are progressing well across both East Haven and West Haven.
  • Kitchens Delivered: The bespoke kitchens have arrived on site and are ready for installation.
  • Bathroom Finishes Incoming: Premium bathroom tiles have been delivered, signalling the start of the high-end bathroom fit-out.

With one of the two bungalows now reserved, interest in the remaining home is building as the interiors take shape.

Project Update from Alveston | October 2025

Our live project in Alveston continues to move forward at pace. It’s been a real pleasure to welcome several investors for site visits in recent weeks and to share first-hand how the homes are taking shape.

Highlights:

  • From August onwards, work focused on the internal fit out; including electrical first-fix, insulation, and plasterboard.
  • By early October, internal plastering was well underway.
  • Underfloor heating installation started mid-October.

Project Update from Alveston | July 2025

Steady progress has been made through July, with both bungalows now named and moving from structural completion towards the first stages of internal fit-out. Plot 1 will be known as East Haven, and Plot 2 as West Haven, a  fitting milestone as they begin to take on their individual character.

Highlights from July:

  • East Haven (Plot 1) Interior Works Underway: All internal partitions are now in place, defining the layout of each room. The first fix of electrics and the fire safety sprinkler system have been completed, and the solar PV panels are now installed on the roof.
  • West Haven (Plot 2) Roof Completed: The roof structure, including steel and timber, is now finished, along with the full roof covering of felt, battens, and tiles. Fascias, soffits, verge details and guttering have also been fitted, completing the roof’s external detailing.
  • West Haven Internal Progress: With the roof sealed, all internal partitions have been constructed, marking the transition into interior works in the coming weeks.

Project Update from Alveston | June 2025

Significant progress continues at Alveston this month, with the new bungalows taking on their full shape and character.

Highlights from June:

  • Main Brickwork Complete: Brickwork is now finished on both units, giving a real sense of the final build.
  • Bungalow 1 Roof Finished: The roof structure is now fully completed, tiled and fitted with roof windows (Vulexes). Fascias, guttering and verge details have also been installed.
  • Bungalow 2 Roof Well Underway: Roof steels have been raised into position and roof timbers are now 95% complete.
  • Next Steps Planned: Preparations are in place for the upcoming phases, with orders for windows and doors, the sprinkler system and PV solar panels all secured.
  • Design Adaptations: Originally, the vaulted ceilings in the living space were designed with plenty of large windows front and back. Once the roof structure went up, it became clear the ceiling height (nearly 5 metres!) needed extra natural light — so two large roof windows have been added. These will ensure the space stays bright and airy. Because they’re positioned so high up, we’ve opted for powered roof windows that can be easily controlled from a switch on the wall.

Project Update from Alveston | May 2025

Construction momentum continues at Alveston as the new bungalows begin to truly take shape.

Highlights from May:

  • Wall Plate Stage Achieved: We’ve reached a key point in the build, with masonry walls now at full height and the wall plate in place—marking the last clear view of the homes before scaffolding goes up.
  • Roof Works Begin: Roof steels are being raised into position, allowing roof construction to commence.
  • Bungalow One: By late May, the roof structure on the first home is well underway.
  • Bungalow Two: Brickwork continues to progress steadily, following closely behind.
  • The homes are now starting to show their scale and design.

Project Update from Alveston | April 2025

April saw exciting structural progress at our Alveston development as the homes began to rise from the ground.

Key milestones include:

  • Foundations Poured: With excavation complete, we moved straight into laying the foundations. Pouring the concrete proved interesting—without access for lorries to the rear of the site, we brought in a concrete pump. This allowed us to place 46 tons of wet concrete precisely where it was needed—all in a single day.
  • Beam & Block Floor Installed: Once cured, the foundations supported a beam and block floor system. Using a large crane, 6m concrete beams were lifted into position and concrete blocks fitted between them, forming a strong and reliable base for each bungalow.
  • Substructure Completed: With the floor in place, the team began building up the masonry walls, moving construction steadily above ground.

With plenty of spring sunshine and great teamwork on site, April delivered some of our most dynamic progress to date.

Project Update from Alveston | March 2025

Progress is well underway at our Alveston development. Over the past few weeks, we’ve made significant strides on site:

  • Soakaways have been dug to support sustainable drainage
  • Foundations have been excavated and prepared
