Our Approach
The original idea was to develop a new dwelling on land at the side of this house. After several iterations of planning permission, we eventually gained consent for a small 1-bed dwelling. However, this proved too small to be worthwhile. It was time to think again; and adapt strategy.
The new plan was to extend and remodel the existing house – to create a high-end shared property known as co-living, which we call Co-Haven – our brand of stylish, modern co-living homes for young professionals.
We worked with specialists consultants and agents to design the best possible project and then set about preparing for construction.
Everything ran smoothly until the construction quotes came back. Due to Covid and lockdowns, prices of labour and materials had risen drastically. With a fixed budget, we reviewed the project (again) and decided to omit the loft conversion, which, although desirable, was very costly relative to the additional space it created.
the outcome
Work started in February 2022 and was completed in December 2022 – without incident and on budget.
All bedrooms have private bathrooms, hard-wired 1GB internet and a home working space. There is a high-spec modern kitchen, alongside generous indoor and outdoor living spaces.
Demand for the property was exceptionally high, and letting agents advised us that they expected it to break the rental ceiling for Shirehampton!
After three years of being empty or refurbished, it’s terrific to see this property again functioning as a lovely home. It has been fully let since early 2023.
